Take a different step forward

Therapy for Long Island and Greater NYC | In-Person & Online

Let your self be the focus.

Therapy for mental health, motherhood, and relationships.

You have spent years learning how to problem-solve, care for others, meet expectations, and navigate life’s challenges. But somewhere along the way, you may have realized that the ways you have always coped are no longer enough. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, disconnected from yourself, or uncertain about what you truly need and want.

Maybe you expected to feel more settled by now, yet each new transition, whether in relationships, motherhood, work, or your sense of identity, has left you questioning who you are and where you fit. You may find yourself looking to those around you and wondering why things seem easier for everyone else. Over time, it can become easier to focus on the external demands of life while losing touch with your own thoughts, feelings, values, and needs.

Therapy can provide a space to reconnect with yourself, understand the patterns that have shaped you, and navigate challenges related to anxiety and depression, relationships, motherhood, culture, and identity. Together, we will work toward helping you feel more grounded, confident, and connected so you can show up for others while also honoring yourself.

You deserve to feel aligned, whole, and trusting of yourself.

Hi, I’m Afshan.

We all deserve a space to work on ourselves. And I believe, that space can be therapy.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, DC, as well as a clinical supervisor and doctoral professor. I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety and depression, life transitions, relationships, and questions of identity. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and the patterns, relationships, and experiences that have shaped who they are.

My approach to therapy is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and collaboration. Given my own multicultural identity, I am especially attuned to the ways culture, family, relationships, and life experiences influence how we understand ourselves and navigate the world. I strive to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to explore what matters most to you.

  • Anxiety & Depression

When anxiety or depression begin to impact your relationships, confidence, or ability to fully engage in your life, therapy can help you understand what is keeping you stuck and develop new ways of coping, connecting, and moving forward.

  • Culture, Identity, & Marriage

Relationships are shaped by more than the connection between two people. Therapy can help you navigate dating, marriage, family expectations, cultural values, and identity while building a life that feels authentic to you.

  • Entering Motherhood

The transition into motherhood brings profound changes in identity, relationships, and sense of self. Therapy offers support through trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, and the ongoing journey of becoming a mother.
